Jim Carrey's Success

;
Jim Carrey

By Jackie Reyno

Ask around and you'll discover that almost everybody loves Jim Carrey as the funniest comedy actor in movies today. Carrey is an easy multi-millionaire, and that isn't a surprise given how widely he appeals to people.

People have a hard time deciding on what one film is the actor's best. There are just so many classic examples to pick from. Carrey's body of work is substantial and people can't pick just one.

The actor's two first films were undeniable successes. Those are the Mask and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Those two flicks made Jim Carrey into a name that everybody knew. But his subsequent successes have kept him where he is - the top of the entertainment business. He rode those successes on to even more.

The next film in his career was called Dumb and Dumber, and that arguably solidified his greatness. He stars as Lloyd Christmas, a lovable dimwit who, along with his friend, played by Jeff Daniels, pursues his dream woman across the country.

After the string of successes came a string of less popular films. Me, Myself and Irene was one. The Cable Guy was another. Both did alright, but failed to attract the audiences of his earlier movies. Still, people out there loved these films too.

The success of his comedy enterprises led him to seek out somewhat more substantial roles. He did star turns in some more serious movies such as Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, gathering him some critical acclaim.

There are just so many Jim Carrey films that you could go through; whittling it down to the best few is a daunting task. Naturally, every person has their own favorite Jim Carrey movie that they will swear up and down is the best of the bunch.

Leonardo DiCaprio - One of the Most Famous Male Celebrities

Leonardo DiCaprio

By L. Vegner

Leonardo DiCaprio, born Leonardo Wilhelm Dicaprio, was born on November 11, 1974 in Los Angeles, California to parents Irmelin Inderberken, a former legal secretary, and to George DiCaprio, an underground comic artist as well as comic book distributor. Leo is best known for his choice of great roles which he has won several awards for. His most notable roles include his breakthrough performance in This Boy's Life, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Titanic, Romeo + Juliet, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed, and his most recent film, Revolutionary Road. He has been nominated in all the major award giving bodies such as BAFTA, SAG, and the Academy Awards.

Leonardo DiCaprio has always been known to be full of zest and spirit. He was named after the great Leonardo Da Vinci after he kicked his mother while still in her womb when she admired a Da Vinci painting in the Uffizi. Leo was an only child, and unfortunately his parents divorced when he was only a year old. He is half-German and half-Italian, both backgrounds influencing his upbringing greatly. He was also very much interested in visiting museums, and collecting baseball cards and comic books. He then went on to study at the Seeds Elementary School, Center for Enriched Studies as well as at the John Marshall High School in Los Angeles.

Back in school, he was always known to be more interested in entertaining his classmates than concentrating on his school work. By the age of five years old, Leo got his acting debut for the TV show Romper Room. Unfortunately, because of his uncontrollable behavior on set, he was let go from the show. Trying to get into acting at such a young age became hard for Leo as he got rejected from one audition to another. At the age of ten, he was even more discouraged when agents tried to change the way he looked as well as his name, wanting to change it to Lenny Williams. Finally, he was signed on when he was 14 years old and starred in obscure advertisements as well as in educational movies. After doing some guest appearances on several television shows, he finally got his big break when he got the role of Tobias Wolff in the film This Boy's Life. The rest as they say is history.

Leonardo Di Caprio has always been known to be very picky with his roles, but he does pick those roles very well. He has turned down popular roles such as Robin in Batman Forever, but chose to do grittier and darker roles such as his characters in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Basketball Diaries. He proceeded to work on more electrifying roles and work with seasoned actors and critically-acclaimed directors in films such as Romeo + Juliet, Marvin's Room, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Beach, Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of New York, and The Departed, among many others. He gained his superstar status when he took on the role of Jack Dawson in James Cameron's Titanic which also starred Kate Winslet, with whom he would work with again ten years later in Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road.

Then, while attending Harvard, he kept skipping classes to pursue acting projects, which included the TNT original film, Rising Sun (1993), and prep-school drama, School Ties (1992). Then when his film, Geronimo: An American Legend (1993), was expected to be a big success that he decided to drop out of university completely.

Bruce Willis As a Celebrity

Bruce Willis

By Joseph Jain

Beginning his career with the hit detective show Moonlighting, Bruce got the reputation of being difficult from that show. The show ended after having four successful seasons on air. It was said that the main reason behind the show ending were the big creative differences Bruce was having with co-star Cybil Shepherd and the Director of the show.

Bruce has many a times has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. He has had a lot of drunken escapades. Bruce was once the brand ambassador of Seagram's but was removed after he was caught driving drunk. One of his neighbors had complained to the police against a party the actor was having at his house. The police were sent over and it was reported that Bruce had a minor scuffle with one of the officers. In many interviews in sporting events that Bruce likes to go, he has appeared to be drunk during those interviews.

Contributing to his reputation as a loose cannon Bruce, a big supporter of the New Jersey Nets was at a game on 29th April 2007. He was interviewed by a news channel and at the end of the interview uttered the famous catch phrase of his Die-Hard character John Mclane "Yippikayay Mother Fu**er" on a live television interview. There was a huge backlash from the media and the public, Bruce blamed the whole incident on jetlag.

He had once famously done a strip tease act on The Late show with David Letterman to promote Demi Moore's movie Striptease. He has also hosted the late show in the absence of good friend Letterman.

Charity work has also been high on his list of things to do. Bruce runs the Bruce Willis Foundation that supports young people through monetary contributions. The Organization helps youngsters reach their full potential and get ahead in life. Another charity he supports is the Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition who provide training and support to hospice teams when they are attending and caring for a dying child. He is also an official spokesperson for the Special Olympics.

Bruce has been one of the very few vocal supporters of guns and the Republican Party. He once said in an interview that if common folk were not allowed to carry guns then only the bad guys would be having the guns. Bruce actively campaigned for almost all the Republican candidates except for Bob Dole; he had criticized his then wife Demi Moore for her role in Striptease. But in 1998 he clarified in an interview that he was apolitical and did not support the Republicans, but only some of their political ideologies.

The Rock Moves to Hollywood

By John R. Harrison

Before he made it to Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson was known as the Rock, a bone-crushing, chest thumping wrestling super star, member of the Nation of Domination.  He won the WWF Championship a mere two years after joining the WWF; he was a nine-time World Heavyweight Championship.   Before that, Mr. Johnson was a collegiate football player, who enjoyed some success, although he never did make it to the NFL Sunday Ticket. Now, this multitalented hulk of a man, with his Paul Bunyan like build, and his chiseled looks is making a name for himself on the big screen. He has played the typical action gung-ho action star who is all muscle and little else. But now, slowly he is being transformed into a leading man. The question is, will he be able to make it? Will straying from his tough guy roots, see this half Samoan former wrestler fall on his laurels? Watch his transformation throughout his movies on satellite TV, and see for yourself, if you think he's got what it takes to move beyond his roots.

The Scorpion King: This was The Rock's first starring role and he earned a whopping $5.5 million dollars, a record for a debut lead actor. Within this high action thriller, Mr. Johnson played Mathayus the Scorpion King, who has to defeat the evil sorcerer Memnon. This flick, with its sweeping desert battle scenes should be enjoyed in no less than high definition.

The Rundown: In this movie, The Rock takes a comic turn. He stars as a professional bounty hunter who doesn't use guns due to a previous incident. Of course, the Rock really doesn't need any extra weapons though. In the Rundown, Johnson is hired to fetch his boss' son from the jungles of South America. From their ensues an entertaining mix of action, slapstick comedy and adventure.

Be Cool: Here, the hefty former wrestle plays a gay Samoan body guard named Eliot, who is also an aspiring actor. This role definitely marks a turn for Johnson and he nails the part. He is both charming, funny and tough. You can watch this crime caper on satellite TV; it airs quite frequently.

Doom: This movie was based on the eponymous video game. It was filmed to mimic the video game aesthetic and it incorporated a balance of CGI and prosthetics; the movie is filled with action, blood and thrills. Dwayne Johnson plays the requisite hero action star. This movie did get pretty bad reviews, but it's still worth the watch if you're a Rock fan.

Get Smart: Here Dwayne Johnson plays secret agent 23 in the filmic remake of this classic TV comedy. Although he pretends to be the hero, 23 is actually a bad apple and must be stopped by the bumbling agent Maxwell Smart played by funny man Steve Carell. Watch all the hijinks in HD, for the best laughs.

Race to Witch Mountain: This is Johnson's latest movie and it marks a definitive move on the star's part to try winning the family market. In the movie, the former sports star plays Jack Bruno, a Las Vegas cab driver who teams up with an astrophysicist to rescue two gifted siblings.DIRECTV is the nation's leading provider of satellite television services. The Many Faces of Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp

By Marcel Van Brienen

Upon looking at the recent Johnny Depp SWEENEY TODD performance it is safe to say Depp has worn many odd faces in his acting career. Really, a Johnny Depp Myspace layout would possess some very unique Johnny Depp pictures!

Without a doubt, Johnny Depp has had a very unique and storied career. Part of the reason for this is he has made a career out of playing odd and offbeat characters. While many actors opt to play it safe, Johnny Depp took many chances with his selection of acting roles. Granted, there were a few misses in his choices but he also experienced colossal hits. Really, there are very few actors who can point to having a career as unique and successful as Johnny Depp.

21 Jump Street

Johnny Depp first gained the public's attention with his performance on the 1980's Fox television series 21 JUMP STREET. The theme of the series centered on cops going undercover in High School settings and it was a fairly decent series. However, it was Depp's performance that truly made the show. He added a unique sense of depth to his character that was seldom seen on television during the era. However, it did not make him a huge star as his career did not exactly skyrocket after the program went off the air. Thankfully, the roles he was offered were incredibly memorable. These unique roles were what started the ball rolling towards Depp's eventual superstardom.

Edward Scissorhands

The first role he accepted would set the stage for his future career. It was, of course, the role of the title character in EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. This bizarre film was essentially a re-imagining of the Frankenstein mythos with the title "creature" portrayed in a sympathetic light. Depp's performance was nothing short of amazing and it struck a nerve with audiences.

Johnny Depp's A list Hollywood productions

This should have propelled Johnny Depp movies to the top of A-list Hollywood productions. However, he opted to perform in smaller budgeted Johnny Depp pictures that involved complex characters. While films such as BENNIE AND JUNE and WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE achieved significant critical acclaim they were not major hits. Many had high (box office) hopes for Depp's highly hyped studio film ED WOOD but it was a dismal box office performer. Yes, Depp's performance was outstanding but it did not translate into selling tickets. It would seem Depp's promising career was over. Of course, we now know it was just beginning of many memorable Johnny Depp movies.

While his major studio box office performances were hits and misses, Depp appeared in a number of smaller films where he continued to establish himself as a fantastic character actor. Like the legendary James Cagney, Depp proved that he could play ANY role and play it well. That is why he was tapped to play the lead in DONNY BRASCO which gave him a new box office hit. There was newfound confidence in Depp from the studios which felt he was the man to call when an offbeat role needed a viable performer. It was this great acting ability that gave studios the confidence to offer character roles in major productions such as CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and, of course, the hugely successful PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN series. Would they have been as successful without Depp? Possibly. Would they have been as memorable without him? No way!

Johnny Depp brings a unique approach to his roles and this shines through. All of his performances are unique, original, and memorable. This has paid huge dividends as it establishes him as a major star.

Heath Ledger Movies

Heath Ledger

By Sean Kurtis

Many people call Heath Ledger a modern James Dean. I have to say I agree with the comparison. Both actors showed a great range in acting ability and both died too young - right at the height of their careers. I love watching Heath Ledger movies, because in each film he embraces his character. He was not afraid to go for the dark roles or play controversial characters. While he started making movies in 1993, he didn't grab the whole world's attention until 2005.

Movies reviews show that The Dark Knight is one of the much loved Heath Ledger movies. Ledger plays the Joker in this Batman film. And while he only has 33 minutes in the 143-minute film, his performances are the most memorable throughout the whole film. Other notable actors include Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Gary Oldman. No doubt, this was a great cast, but whenever I watch the movie, I wish the other scenes would hurry up, so I can see more of Heath as the Joker. Heath does a spellbinding job playing as Batman's antagonist. He leads us through his mind of psychopathic reasoning and debauchery.

Out of all of Heath Ledger movies, it was the Patriot that really put star power behind his name. Acting alongside actors Mel Gibson and Chris Cooper in the 2000 box office hit Heath Ledger quickly became a name in Hollywood. In this harrowing tale set in the late eighteenth century the Colonial Americans go to war against the mother country of Britain, Against his father's (Gibson) wishes Gabriel (Ledger) joins in the fight against the British. After learning of his sons detainment Ben (Gibson) sets out to save him. Only for Gabriel to later re join the continental force. This powerful story about a father and his family fighting for freedom in different ways can come together.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is the last of Heath Ledger movies. Unfortunately, this hidden gem didn't get a wide release and not too many are aware of it. Heath was meant to play the character Tony throughout the whole movie, but he died before the movie was finished. Actors Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law picked up where Heath left off, as a remembrance to his legacy. Doctor Parnassus is a fantasy film directed by Terry Gilliam. It's a visually beautiful film that uses the age-old battle of good and evil. Tony (Heath) comes on scene as a wanderer who nearly died before being saved by a traveling theater troupe. Tony pretends to have amnesia claiming he doesn't know who he is and why anyone would want to murder him. This movie features the Devil, played by Tom Waits, and what choices people make given the option of good and evil. It's a dark film with a good and honest message. One of my most favorite Heath Ledger movies.

In all his roles, Heath seemed to always want to outdo himself and go for the difficult characters. His movies gave us something to think about, as to who we are as people. This is only one of the reasons why I love Heath Ledger movies.

My name is Sean and I own a video store and a movie resource website. I Love movies and believe in providing good quality information to people. That is why I started my website. For people who love movies, my site has movie reviews. You can search movie quotes, browse trivia and so much more. You can even write your won review and share it with others. Shah Rukh's fame is not just limited to Bollywood or India but it has gone far beyond and touched the hearts of many across the world, of different nationality, language and culture.
